Chery was founded on January 8, 1997 in the underdeveloped Chinese province of Wuhu, largely with the intention to support the local economy. From its humble beginnings, Chery Automobile Co. Ltd. has grown exponentially in a short span of time to become one of the most renowned independent automakers. Powered by independent innovation, Chery is today a respectable brand and its cars and commercial vehicles enjoy a global presence in over 80 countries.

Chery holds the distinction of being the first Chinese automotive company to export cars – a feat achieved when it first sent cars to Syria in 2001. Since then, the company has taken several steps that have led to greater success year after year. Today, with a cumulative sales of over 4.5 million units including cumulative exports of over 1 million units, Chery has positioned itself as one of the top ten car manufacturers and the leading exporter of cars in China. The state-of-the-art set-up at Chery’s vehicle manufacturing bases in Wuhu, Dalian and Ordos have the capacity to churn out 900,000 vehicles, 900,000 engines and 800,000 transmissions annually.

Since inception, Chery has adhered to independent innovation and achieved breakthroughs in an array of domestic sophisticated core technologies that has driven the technical upgrading of all series. In terms of intellectual property construction, Chery had applied for 8,769 patents and won 6,153 by late 2013, ranking first among Chinese automakers.

In 2013, Chery officially established “Technology Chery” as its brand strategy, and launched “iAuto”, a high-tech, standardized and forward-looking platform created on the basis of independent technologies accumulated over the years, in accordance with world leading standards.
